The Finnish Bulleteers - Bullets MC Chapter East
(this article was published in the Bullet-in magazine in 2003)
By Lauri Ankerman
The Finnish Bullet club came about because a number of Bullet
enthusiasts wanted to find like-minded companions. A mailing list was
started and, through the internet, the number of Bulleteers on the list
rose very quickly. Soon it became obvious that we needed to organise
ourselves more formally. We have a president, Christopher Holstrom who
had good relations with Swedish Bullets MCC. These links were built upon
and we became Bullets MC Chapter East. We have sister chapters in most
of the Scandanavian countries.
Bullets MC is not an outlaw motorcycle club but are a group of
enthusiasts who love our bikes and riding them. Most of our bikes are
Indian 500s but we also have some very different Royal Enfields,
pictures of which you can see on our website (address below).
The club is very informal we regard anyone who joins our mailing list,
attends meetings, comes on trips or contributes to this hobby in any way
as a member! However, one special event we organise is the annual Kings
Road Rally. Last year 22 bikes participated making this the biggest
Royal Enfield event in the Nordic countries.
The route goes along what is known as the Old Kings Road. This is not
only a picturesque and motorcycle-friendly route but also one of the
oldest surviving routes in Finland. In fact, the route comprises some of
the oldest roads in the whole of northern Europe, starting at Bergen by
the Atlantic Ocean and ending at St Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland.
Since the 14th century kings and merchants, artists and pilgrims have
travelled the King's Road.
This meeting of east and west has created a unique cultural treasury.
Whats more its VERY fun to ride with narrow and bendy roads and
perhaps the most beautiful scenery in Finland. In fact, the King's Road
was the first northern European route to carry the white-brown signs
denoting sights of interest and was the first official tourist trail in
Finland. It runs along the main roads of the southern coastline, that
is, on both sides of the E18 in the easterly direction from Helsinki and
along roads 51, 52 and the E18 from Helsinki towards the west.
This year our rally runs from 19-20 June and will bring together bikes
and riders from all over Finland and neighbouring countries. If you
fancy joining us for a relaxed and informal get-together in the
beautiful Finnish countryside between Turku and Helsinki check out the
information on our website at http://enfield.ewok.fi/.
